Summary of project results

The need to implement the project was dictated by two issues - the desire to share knowledge about our MAM (citizens activity places) animation work method and to improve the qualifications of people working in various types of "open places" or community centers, as well as to develop this method and build a network of allied institutions in Krakow and the entire Małopolska region that can influence local authorities so that more and more such places are created for the benefit of local communities, as well as the experience of our partner, UMIG Skawina, resulting from several years of functioning (and the creation of new ones) of places serving the activity of residents under the name of Cultural Activity Centers, which operated in a very uneven manner in terms of quality and according to the office''s diagnosis, this functioning had to be improved, as well as to cause a "revival" in their operation and to prepare people involved in their operation for systematic work in terms of the animation of local communities. The challenges were:
- lack of preparation of NGOs for animation work and diverse motivation to undertake new
forms of work (e.g. animation, participation)
- lack of uniform standards for the operation of various places (e.g. one CAK already operating, community centres, fire stations, housing estate community centres),
- lack of formal solutions to strengthen and consolidate the functioning of CAKs (e.g.
financing, transfer to run NGOs).

As part of the project, we trained local animators in 2 locations from the Cultural Activity Centers network in Skawina and jointly created standards of operation for the network. There were also 6 neighborhood actions that involved over 500 people. We conducted educational activities and popularized the MAM animation work method by creating films (3), podcasts (4), a brochure, organizing a two-day regional forum for animators and two editions of an online training challenge based on our course on YT, we also organized a nationwide conference Open Places.

Raising the animation competences and quality of functioning of CAKs in Skawina
Increased recognition of the method and raising the animation competences of people participating in the educational challenge, forum and conference, developed new products (brochure, films, podcasts)
In the long term, the project brings benefits in two ways:
For the Partner - they have two social places that operate more professionally and actually work using social animation methods,
they have developed standards for the entire network, they have also partially influenced local policy - provisions on the education of animators running
CAKs and the need for regular networking of people working in them are to be included in the new version of the Municipal Revitalization Program.
For the BIS Foundation - thanks to educational and dissemination activities, we are becoming recognizable not only on a province scale but also on a national scale (organizing the Open Places conference in November helped a lot in this) experts in conducting local community animation
a specific, original method based on place. This brings with it questions: about study visits, preparing others to run such a place, training and presentations at conferences in this area. It translates into real partnerships and new projects. In Krakow itself, it contributed to the creation of a coalition of local NGOs supporting this topic and striving to build a network of Resident Activity Places
