Description
Access to healthcare is a basic human right directly violated by the military conflict in Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens who have reached Bulgaria face primary challenges (shelter, food, safety), which necessitates the need for informational activities about their opportunities to access medical services. The purpose of the project is to inform Ukrainian citizens with temporary status in Bulgaria about the possibilities for treatment and access to the so-called "personalized medicine". In this way, the exercise of a basic human right - access to health care - will be ensured. Armed conflicts directly affect the civilian population and their human rights. Ukraine''s broken health care systems, forced migration, and overcoming logistical and administrative challenges make access to medical and health care difficult. Provision of consultations on the possibilities of access to medical services in Bulgaria will ensure the exercise of the human right violated as a result of the war in Ukraine. The expected results are posts on YouTube and the creation of a Ukrainian-language hotline to inform Ukrainian citizens about treatment options. It is planned to employ a citizen of Ukraine for the entire period of the project. End users of the project are refugees and migrants from Ukraine.
Summary of project results
The project addresses the right to treatment and access to medical care.
In order to provide information and advice on the possibilities for access to medical services for Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria, 6 videos with instructions on how to access treatment and specialists in different diseases have been developed and published on YouTube and BAPEMED website: oncological, cardiovascular, endocrinological (diabetes mellitus), infectious diseases: AIDS, hepatitis C and tuberculosis. Also, a popside "RefuGenes" has been created on the BAPEMED website, which is also a hotline in Ukrainian language for legal assistance and advice to those in need of treatment. The implementation team includes 2 experts in personalized medicine, one lawyer and a Ukrainian national, a refugee with relevant experience and education, who has been hired to implement this activity.
Within the framework of the project 6 thematic information videos were created. Their content is focused on the health rights of people from Ukraine, the concept of personalized medicine and its application in modern healthcare, as well as on refined approaches to diagnosis and therapy of a number of socially significant diseases (oncological, endocrine, infectious and cardiovascular).
