The Slovak self-governing regions of Košice and Prešov and Ukrainian region of Transcarpathia have all been severely affected by the European economic crisis. The GDP in the three regions are below 30% of the EU average.

A total allocation of €12.7 million is available for the cross-border programme. The objective is to find common solutions to problems related to social and economic disparities on both sides of the Slovak-Ukrainian border.

The projects will be aiming at mitigation of existing barriers to cross-border cooperation, by creating or supporting existing cross-border partnerships, exchanging of know-how and improving border crossing conditions and cross-border information flows.

Who can apply for funding?

Slovak public, private organisations and NGOs are eligible for support. Participation from Ukrainian and Norwegian entities will be regulated through a partnership agreement.  The Barents Secretariat will in the capacity as a donor programme partner assist in awareness-raising among potential partners in Norway.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline for submitting a proposal is 31 January, 2014.

You can read more about the first call for proposals on the EEA and Norway Grants website and the website of the programme operator, the Government Office of the Slovak Republic.
