Description
The main objective of the project is to develop an innovative green solution for replacing the classic treatment of sheep wool fibre and apply it into an improved green product, ready to launch into the market, in order to increase the Riwowi Line''s competitiveness into the market. The project aims to identify, through research, a treatment process to be applied to sheep wool fibre that is efficient and durable against pests, as well as to improve the fire-proof characteristic of the thermal insulation.
At the moment, the conventional production process of sheep wool thermal insulation involves the application of toxic and irritating solutions and treatment with pesticides. The project will develop a new treatment solution with the introduction into the production line of nanomaterials. This solution, both innovative and greener than the conventional methods of insulation, will support best practices for the environment and humans. The technical solution includes purchasing a wool cleaning line equipment, plasma installation equipment and laboratory equipment.
Key activities include:
- Investments.
- R&D.
- Management.
- Publicity to ensure the visibility of the project.
The implementation of this project will lead to increased production capacity of the company due to increased productivity. This will be possible as a result of the purchase of high-performance equipment and a production hall of 600 square meters. The new equipment and the innovative plasma treatment will improve material efficiency and will minimise raw material waste, energy and water consumption.
The project is done in partnership with Sintef AS from Norway. Sintef AS is a broadly based, multidisciplinary research institute with international top-level expertise in technology, medicine and social sciences. The research institute’s role in the project will be to contribute to the development of the process by which the wool would be treated through the aplication of nanomaterials.
