Description

SC Rom Paper SRL is a manufacturer of sanitary and household products for global market. The company plans to acquire a technical solution that is representing a top-of-the-line production methodology in the paper tissue manufacturing. The project will increase the company’s competitiveness by improving and extending its production capacity. The new production line will enable the company to produce tissues that would impact the environment less, by reducing the paper basis grammage of the final product which is not possible with the existing technology.

The company has identified the necessity to adapt the business model to become greener and more innovative. With this project, the company will continue to focus on customer satisfaction and improve the quality standards in the production process. The machinery needed to reach this goal are automatic inter folding lines, automatic conveyor, vacuum system, and a press container. The 4 existing lines will be replaced with 2 production lines which have a higher performance and has lass maintenance problems. The 2 lines will also need fewer vacuum pumps which makes the process greener. The new production lines also do not require manual intervention. Key activities include:

  • Project management by internal team.
  • External consultancy which includes financial audit.
  • Investment activity to acquire the production lines.
  • Project publicity to promote the project.

The expected outcomes of the project include CO2 to annually decrease from 201,36 tonnes in 2019 to 181,16 tonnes in year end of 2024. For the same period, energy consumption is expected to decrease from 658,04 megawatt-hour to 592,04 megawatt-hour. Finally, the company estimates to annually collect 200 tonnes of paper waste at the end of 2024 for re-use or recycling.

Summary of project results

The Promoter was considering the market opportunities, focusing mainly on responding to the continuous increase of  customers’ demands in a professional manner, with high quality products at a fair price. The company has identified the necessity to adapt the business model to become greener and more innovative. The project investment will respond to the company''s need to increase the technical and technological capabilities and to greening the production process. By doing so, the company will continue to  focus on full satisfaction of customer requirements and expectations and on improving the quality standards in the production process

The Promoter proposed a technical solution meant for achieving the project aim, solution which comprised the following equipment:

1. Automatic inter folding facial tissue lines, composed from 3 main components: facial tissue machines, automatic cartoning machines and case packaging machines (unwinder, Calender + cut turning, facial folding head, log saw, box filler, case packaging, robotised unit that form the pellet according to pre-established standards)
2. Automatic Conveyor with automated stretch applicator and labelling+ERP connection
The fully automated conveyor will apply stretch on the pellet and transfer it in the warehouse. This component of the investment will also help the Applicant to reduce the waste of cardboard, adhesive tape and stretch foil, creating a good control of the consumption of these materials and resulting in a positive impact on the environment.
 3. Vacuum system for collecting log-saw trim and press container for baling.
The 4 existing lines will be replaced with 2 production lines with higher performance and with less maintenance related problems (fewer spare parts to be replaced, such as filters, oil, ball bearings etc.) These two lines will need fewer vacuum pumps which will determine an improvement in the maintenance costs and efficiency, resulting in a greener production process. The new automatic case packing component will lead to the reduction of the consumption of adhesive band, a process which is being performed manually at this moment without a precise control over the consumption per unit production.
The investment consisted in greener, more efficient and productive production lines which start from the raw material to finished product without requiring manual intervention.

The Promoter has reported the below outcomes as being achieved or on track for achievement in the set period:

-Estimated annual growth in turnover: 36% in 2024 compared to baseline year 2020: Based on the initial data, the value of the turnover registered in 2023 is equivalent with RON 131.165.173.
-Estimated annual growth in net operational profit (EBIT): 106% in 2024 compared to baseline year 2019: Based on the initial data, the value of the EBIT registered in 2023 is equivalent with RON 6.441.613.
-Estimated annual decrease of CO2 emissions from 201.36 tonnes of CO2 in 2019 to 181.16 tonnes of CO2 at the end of 2024: The value of the current indicator, registered during 2023, is equivalent with 183,60 tonnes of CO2
-Estimated annual decrease of energy consumption from 658.04 megawatt hours in 2019 to 592.04 megawatt hours at the end of 2024: The energy consumption registered for the business line of the project was equivalent with 595-600 MWh in 2023.
The entire technical solution is successfully implemented and the Promoter expects to see those results in the first post-implementation report that will be submitted in the first part of 2025 (until 15.01).

In addition, during the Final Digital Visit the Promoter reported that as a result of project implemenation the company has increased its production capacity by 60%, rached full automatization of the production process and significantly increased the quality of the final product.
