Description

The main objective of the project is to implement efficient technologies for manufacturing biodegradable, compostable and marine biodegradable packaging. The company will invest in 8 new equipment which will allow them to make the new products in a green manner. The new equipment will reduce the energy consumption, reduce fuel consumption as well as improve material efficiency. The project also integrates local agricultural chains for bio-based and compostable packaging. This would ultimately reduce the company''s carbon footprint, subsequently strengthening the local circular economy.
The main outcome of the project is to increase the competitiveness of Promateris by producing four new products: Compostable mulching film, compostable hygiene film (lining for pads and diapers), ultralight produce bags (fruit and vegetables) and marine biodegradable film. Two types of products will be 100% compostable which will help solve the problem of food waste since the compostable packaging is the only packaging which allows fully recycling of food. The biodegradable and compostable packaging are plant based and uses renewable resources. These products aim to replace fossil and petrol-based materials with bio-based materials. Key activities include:

  • Investments which include purchasing 8 new equipment.
  • Project audit.
  • Project management.
  • Publicity activities.

The main outputs of the project include hiring 10 new employees, invest in 8 new green equipment for compostable and biodegradable products and commercialize 4 innovative solutions. This would result in an increase in both turnover and net operational profit.
The project is done in partnership with Biobag International which is a Norwegian company specialized in development, production and marketing of compostable and biodegradable products. The company will share its competence and know how on developing the new products. Both partners will promote the project results in the market they activate.

Summary of project results
