The aim of the project is to increase the awareness and knowledge of young people and adult residents of the City of Gdansk about public participation and the benefits it brings. According to the document ‘Strategy Barometer. Evaluation Study of the Gdańsk Strategy for Solving Social Problems by 2030’, the sense of influence of residents on what is happening in the city is relatively low. This is the opinion of 62.1% of those surveyed, and 51% suggest taking action to promote public participation as a way of solving this problem. This project increases the awareness and knowledge of young people and adults living in Gdansk about public participation and its benefits. It also promotes the participation in city offices, city institutions, NGOs and among socially active and engaged people. We undertake cross-sectoral cooperation in order to shape urban policies collaboratively, and we help develop the competences of those carrying out participatory activities. We collaborate with, among others, departments of the Municipal Office in Gdańsk, city units, District Councils, NGOs and academic institutions. Our partner is the Morena Association, which specialises in youth civic participation. As part of the project, we conduct internal and external advocacy, implement a social and advocacy campaign, and organise the Gdańsk Participation Forum. We run a participation pilot in a selected district of the city and develop a Good Practice Model. Together with experts, we create a Participatory Toolbox. In the course of project activities, we look for new solutions to involve residents in co-determining urban policies and shaping common space.
