Description

In this project we are responding to the problem of discrimination in cultural institutions, in particular the problem concerning the lack of equality standards in the organisation of artistic activities for young people. The direct beneficiaries of the project are instructors and young people - participants of artistic activities in the Silesian Provinces, whose needs we diagnosed before preparing the project. We are helping organise and run creative, inclusive activities for young people that are accessible to different groups and open to diversity. As part of the project, we are running a training cycle consisting of 2 in-person sessions for 10 instructors working with young people complemented by the activities with young persons. During the workshops we develop the competences of the participants in the area of anti-discrimination, inclusive education and social activation of young people through artistic means. We prepare them to run activities for young people in a more open and inclusive way and to work with people with difficult access to culture. Supported by the instructors, groups of young people implement artistic events that address social issues most important to them. They are attended by around 500 spectators. We also implement a social campaign in the form of a podcast. In it, we convey knowledge about the needs of discriminated groups and the potential of art to initiate social change.

Summary of project results

The project responded to the problem of discrimination in cultural institutions by implementing equality standards in artistic activities for young people. Our direct recipients are instructors and people participating in artistic classes from Silesia, whose needs we have carefully diagnosed.

We organized 2 training sessions (56 hours of training) for 10 artistic instructors working with approximately 100 young people. The workshops were conducted by experienced experts, significantly increasing the participants'' competences in the field of counteracting discrimination, inclusive education and social activation of young people using artistic means. Thanks to participation in the project, the participants gained competences and readiness to work with people with special needs.

The participants changed the way they conducted classes for young people to be more open and inclusive and expanded their groups to include people with difficult access to culture.

Youth groups, under the supervision of instructors, created 10 artistic events that touched upon social issues that were most important to them. These activities increased their cultural competences and social activity. Approximately 500 spectators took part.

Finally, we conducted a social campaign in the form of a podcast in which we share knowledge about discriminated groups and the potential of art to initiate social change.

Participants'' perspective (10 instructors):

Competencies in the scope of training have been increased

The participants were given the opportunity to use them in practice

Fears about working with people with special needs have been reduced. The participants inspired each other, strengthened their creative and coaching skills, and changed their attitudes to be more open and tolerant.

Youth perspective:

Increased creative competences

Increased civic activity

Changing the attitude to a more open and tolerant one

The perspective of the institutions where our participants conduct classes, viewers of youth artistic events and podcast recipients:

Awareness about discrimination and ways to counteract it has been increased
