Civil society is a fundamental building block of democratic governance and social cohesion. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) play a vital role in promoting democratic values, human rights and fostering civic participation.Support to civil society is one of the key priorities for Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in the EEA and Norway Grants, with NGO Programmes established in all 16 beneficiary countries.The programmes increase the capacity of civil society in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics and help mobilise citizens to voice their concerns and actively engage in social development.
