Description

In terms of environmental zoning, the border area is characterized by the heterogeneity of the environment: from high-quality environment in the north (1st grade of protection, with the existence of the National Park Poloniny) to the deteriorated environment (4th grade - Zemplin burdened area and severely disturbed Latorica zone). This state of the environment extends to the cross-border regions of Ukraine. The proposed project anticipates an analysis of the environment in the cross-border area. The project will result in modelling variants of efficient land use involving the local population so that the proposed solutions contribute to the sustainable economic development of the area while protecting the environment. The proposed project anticipates an analysis of the environment in the cross-border area. The project will result in modelling variants of efficient land use involving the local population so that the proposed solutions contribute to the sustainable economic development of the area while protecting the environment. The project is expected to achieve these outcomes: 1.Survey of the components of environment and their quality in the SR-UA border area and economic development potential of the area, 2.Comparative analysis of the border areas development - examples of good practice, 3. Proposal of possibilities of sustainable utilization of SK-UA cross-border area.

Summary of project results

The territory of the Slovak-Ukrainian border is characterized by several specifics. These are both natural, climatic, cultural and economic. The historical interconnectedness of the area, coupled with a low linguistic and cultural barrier, creates prerequisites for effective co-operation on the joint development of cross-border areas. From the point of view of environmental regionalization, the border area is characterized by considerable heterogeneity of the quality of the environment, from the economic point of view it is the economically least developed territory of Slovakia. The objective of the project in the form of a developed analysis has been achieved, with the continuation of the research being started in the future through the implementation of other projects of similar or partial orientation. As part of the project activities, it was necessary to harmonize the activities of the individual project partners, to ensure the administration of the project, to equip the beneficiary with the necessary technical equipment, to make measurements of the environmental compartments in the project territory and to process the results. All of the above activities were funded by NFM. The recipient of the project has gained invaluable experience with conducting an international project, a device usable for further research by its scientists, and an analysis mapping the project area that may provide the basis for further research and projects.

Summary of bilateral results

One of the main benefits of the implemented project is the experience gained from cooperation from foreign financial and non-financial partners. Project co-operation has enabled the recipient as well as the partner to compare practices, experiences, research methods and other aspects in practice in the implementation of project tasks. As the project had partners from Norway and Ukraine, they contributed to strengthening the methodology used to implement the project, increasing the know-how of project activities and multiple promotional activities (outside the beneficiary's activities in the Slovak Republic).
