Description

Poverty and family breakdowns can create difficult situations for children. These factors produce, in many cases, dropout and absenteeism, illiteracy and social exclusion. The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of life for children at risk and their families. This will be achieved through access to social services in their proximity, creating a centre of integrated services for children and families in the locality Luncani-Casa Aurora (Margineni Commune, Bacau County). Also, the objective will be achieved by developing new and complementary services in the centres Yana House, Heidi House and Peter House situated in the Nicolae Balcescu Commune. In these 4 centres, 150 children (out of which, 23 Roma) will benefit from integrated counselling, skills development activities and social behavioural therapy services. The centre will also provide customized support for parents/guardians in order to strengthen their parent-child relationship.

Summary of project results

The project idea came as a result of a socio-economical identified need to help children from vulnerable groups and to support their social integration. The project was implemented under a public-private partnership, between Mărgineni Commune mayoralty as Project Promoter and Nicolae Bălcescu Commune mayoralty and Yana Foundation as partners. This partnership managed to implement social activities in order to improve the quality of life for children at risk and their families through access to social services. Through this project were created 4 social Centers in Bacău county, Aurora House in Luncani village, Yana House, Heidi House and Peter House in Nicolae Bălcescu Commune, to provide services for children, such as counselling services, development activities and personal skills, formal and non formal education activities, costumized support for parents, in order to strenghten their child-parent relationship. As a result of this project implementing, 230 children were direct beneficiaries (80 children were beneficiries of these social Centers and 150 are new beneficiaries, they were selected for this project), 23 children are Rroma; 200 parents were beneficiaries of counselling activities and support group meetings and Parents School activities; 24 specialists were trained in working with vulnerable groups; 4 facilities were equipped to provide specialized services for their beneficiaries: furniture, supplies etc; 2 round tables were organized, in order to inform participants about the services developed through the project; 5 trips around the country were organized for the children (in Cheile Bicazului, Bucovina, Neamț, Iași and Târgu Ocna). At the end of the project, a written material was realised, a “good practice guide”, to be used by specialists as a communication instrument for parental therapy activities.
