Summary of project results

The project was implemented in partnership between Cilibia Commune Municipality as Project Promoter and The Secondary School and Buzau City Prefecture, as Partners. The main objective of this project was to provide a set of integrated services to help children, youth and their parents to overcome the vulnerability generated by severe poverty. A diagnoze of the economical situation in the area, revealed severe lack of jobs and financial opportunities, a large number of families in the Cilibia Commune living at risk of poverty and social exclusion; children and youth, especially those belonging to the Roma minority being the most vulnerable, with a high rate of school drop-out and absenteeism major risk factors. The project intervention in this rural community was necessary to improve the access for children at education and to decrease school dropping. The project intervention followed three directions: decreasing school drop-out, increasing social and professional integration for youth and awareness for the adults within the community, regarding the importance of implication and support for the education of children and youth. Through this project, a Day Centre was created, in order to provide services for children and youth. As a result, 65 children are part of the programme “School after school”, 60 young people are direct beneficiaries of the project activities and 40 parents were part of the counselling programme (including literacy for 15 parents).
