Description

The "Young Involved - Ambassador for Human Rights" project aims to develop active participation of 300 students from 3 secondary schools and their parents of 3-ethnic rural communities to become active citizens of Ialomita that promote a balanced participation in solving community problems over a period of 12 months. The objective will focus on developing an integrated system of activities and tools for balanced participation at the level of the ethnic rural community. The project's main outputs render the promotion of a favorable framework for the NGO sector to better address community problems, the promotion of active citizenship through an active participation of 1000 persons in public activities and project promotion, 300 young people in education activities, 30 young people in project development and 30 teachers to have improved their interethnic knowledge.

Summary of project results

The project managed to increase the level of participation for 300 students attending the secondary schools in Traian, Barbulesti and Andrasesti (Ialomita County), along with their parents, in order to become active citizens that promote a balanced participation in solving community problems. The main objective was focused on developing an integrated system of activities and tools specific for the ethnic rural community life. During the project an awareness campaign in the 3 schools was organised, promoting the “Accept! Understand! Respect!” guide. Training seminars addressed to 30 pupils, 3 mentors and 52 teachers on combating, avoiding and identifying situations of discrimination in the community were also organised. The project also included a debate on the subjects related to civic education (named “Civic Education - where?"), an event that meant to contribute to the development of the advocacy capacities in human rights for all the organizations involved and for the other institutional stakeholders connected to the project. In each community, a project was developed in order to promote solutions for local problems - 7 events of promoting interculturality, non-discrimination and respecting human rights were organised and more than 1,000 members of the local communities attended. A festival was also organised, during which young ambassadors for human rights presented the activities they were involved in. The project proposed a complex mechanism of education, awareness raising processes for young people and school representatives on subjects like exercising democratic rights and engagement in community life in order to produce changes from within.
