Description

The VSS-victim support Service, applied in partnership by SNCRR Brasov and IPJ Brasov is a transposition into practice of the directive 2012/29/EU on rights, support and protection of victims of crime. Each year only in the County of Brasov more than 5000 people end up victims of various crimes and for these individuals there is no service support. The present project aims at creating an integrated service to support victims of crime. Specific objectives aim at preventing victimization of women and children, through information and awareness campaigns (1000 beneficiaries) and developing victim support service (70 victims benefiting of psychological counseling and information, 30 victims benefiting of self defense courses and first aid). The project's target groups are women and young girls older than 14 years who live in the County of Brasov and which are at risk of victimization or who have been victims of crime in the last two years. The main expected results are the creation of a functional service and the continuous improvement of life quality for the victims of crime.

Summary of project results

The project responds to the local needs for support of victims of criminal offence, as identified by the partner in the project (County Police Inspectorate Brasov), which is dealing with people facing different situations of risk or who were victims of different crimes. These persons need support and specialised guidance beyond the interventions that representatives of the police are able to conduct. The support service for victims set up within the framework of the project provides counselling, therapy and self-defence training. In addition to the direct services for victims, information activities for population at risk to be exposed to criminal offences were conducted. 1,050 persons received information on the risks of becoming victims, areas with high risk and ways to avoid becoming a victim. More than 100 people received personalised information and counselling during the implementation period within the Victims Suport Service. 15 volunteers were trained to provide information and counselling to the victims who address to the VSS. Adequate spaces were organised and endowed for self-defence training and psychological counselling. 30 beneficiaries attended a first aid course. Although initially reluctant to accept psychological counselling and therapy, beneficiaries were determined to participate in the programme until emotional recovery - 30 persons benefited of psychological counselling and 20 persons benefited of psychotherapy. 5 persons were still attending therapy sessions after the completion of the project.
