Summary of project results

The “Grow Up” Project was an initiative which offered appropriate solutions for increasing the level of engagement in the development process of five communities (Birca, Cerat, Sadova, Lipovu, Malu Mare) in Dolj County, all actions leading to socio-economic integration of Roma people and solving common community problems. 15 people from the selected communities were supported in taking the necessary steps required for the creation of five NGOs which were aiming to help increasing the active participation of the community members, as well as to support building a community development process. The people involved in the project became more proactive and were able to understand the strategies and principles of local development, as well as to develop fundraising campaigns. Five local action plans were created, all with emphasis on socio-cultural integration of the Roma population. Under this initiative undertaken by the Allons-y Association in partnership with Evolve, the citizens of the targeted communities were encouraged and supported to start similar initiatives and other measures aimed at solving problems specific to their localities. Citizens were informed on how they can intervene, both on their own initiative and with the help of their neighbours and even local authorities. Community development activities will have even a higher incidence in the coming years, with the help of the initiative groups (local interethnic NGOs). One of the NGOs already launched a volunteer recruitment campaign in the community.
