Summary of project results

The project called “Resource Center for the Roma from Candesti” and implemented by Vox Civica had as a main objective to reduce the school dropout rates for 40 children and to increase the level of education and training (computer skills, literacy and language skills) for 30 people in Candesti. During the project implementation the promoter wanted to renew a building and create a resource Center for the Roma ethnics in partnership with the local authorities, but because of some technical and financial issues the County Council did not manage to contribute and the working was prematurely stopped at about 40 -50 %. Even without being able to finish renewing the building, the promoter managed to organise a school after school program for the children, using space from the Secondary School - Candesti. The promoter also conducted remedial and extracurricular school activities. During the implementation of the project, 30 Roma ethnics were selected and were offered entrepreneurship courses. In the same time, information and counselling activities for basic computer skills and learning a foreign language were organised. The project was implemented with special trained facilitators, and together with a group of volunteers a large number of persons without identification documents or property documents were found and offered help. At the same time, 93 actions in court were started in order to establish the right of property. During the entire implementation period the project promoter offered support to over 300 people on various cases, most of them related to enrolling children in after school activities, entrepreneurship, English language and computer literacy, property documents and social assistance.
