Summary of project results

The project managed to revive the interethnic rural communities in the communes of Hoghiz and Racos (Brasov County), through modern educational practices, community animation activities and cultural and sports events. The project objectives were reached though different activities. For example, two “Practice Gardens” were organised in Mateias (Racos commune) and Bogata (Hoghiz commune) involving 63 pupils, 13 teachers and 30 parents. Five interactive educational modules based on practice were developed: “Little Farmer” – with 63 participants, “Family School” – with 123 participants, “Ecological Patrol” – with 108 participants, “Practice Firm - education for entrepreneurship” – with 59 participants and “Fast cooking” – with 131 participants. A participatory survey on Roma living standards in the multi-ethnic communities, focused on Racos commune (involving 324 community members and 17 teachers) was also carried-out during the project. Other activities included: a mini-soccer Championship between the students from Racos, Mateias, Hoghiz, Dopca and Bogata, film screenings on modern agricultural practice, environment protection, nature protected areas and traditions of the ethnics, with the participation of 186 pupils, 10 teachers and 36 parents. The students participating in the Eco Patrol Racos found that the protected area with basalt columns and red clay quarry around the village could attract tourists. Subsequently, they evaluated the local potential for accommodation and started to work on a touristic plan. The project has brought major changes in three areas: a. Community solidarity for productivity; b. Modern education of young people from ethnic communities; c. Reviving rural ethnic communities through cultural and sports animation. Project activities contributed to the interethnic dialogue and cooperation between Roma, Romanian and Hungarian youth and also prepared them better for an active life: improved knowledge and practical skills to find a job, to start a business, to work in agriculture, to protect nature.
