Description

The project aims at exploring the cultural musical identity of Norway and Portugal. This will be done through intensive workshops on storytelling, music, movement&drama and plastic arts, mainly during the first semester of the school year 2015/2016, built accordingly to the input of the Promoter - Academia de Música de Lagos - and the artistic Norwegian partner Haugesund Kulturskole in early age art education expression. The partnership goes stronger as the two artistic entities share a common bond and strive for the cross-boundaries between arts and education. In one hand, the Haugesund Kulturskole is committed to continued growth, both in terms of quality of artistic teaching and the development of new cultural activities for children and youth. The Promoter - Academia de Música de Lagos - engages in this partnership as a leader in the coordination and programming of the Project, in line with its extended arts education portfolio, since they are today both an acknowledged and referenced Educational Institute in the South of the Country as well as one of the main cultural organizers of the Region, organizing more than 350 cultural events per year, varying its cultural production from concerts in festival setting, conferences, exhibitions, workshops and master-classes in several venues, throughout Algarve.

Summary of project results

“Tales From the Sea” started germinating in March 2014, when the Academia de Música de Lagos’ Director, José Viegas Gonçalves, and the Agrupamento ESPAMOL de Lagoa’s Director, José Eduardo Luís, visited Haugesund Kulsturskole in Norway, fruit of the successful application to the Bilateral Fund Cooperation / Cultural Footprint: Arts and Education, and right away the lines were drawn for the essential purposes of the project: exploring maritime ideas as common intangible heritage between Norway and Portugal and the construction of fundamental values such as inclusion and multiculturalism. The highlight of the project was without a doubt the presentation of the Children Show “The Adventure of Fossegrim” in February 2016, that took to the stage 100 children within the target group, together with the Fossegrim Orchestra, the Child Educators and the Project Trainers Albina Petrolati, Carla Lopes, Joana Godinho, Nelda Magalhães, Neuza Diniz, Pedro Coutinho, Sónia Rodrigues, Tiago Sequeira, Tiago Fialho, who throughout 6 months worked intensively on various artistic disciplines: storytelling, music, movement, staging and visual arts. The show, with artistic direction by Daniela Tomaz, based on the original tale by Nelda Magalhães, was adapted to scene by Filipe Miguel Telmo and premiered the original song “Gigantes Amigos” (Giant Friends) by Jorge Salgueiro. The Lagoa Municipality was also a fundamental partner, namely supporting the edition of the DVD-Book “Tales from the Sea | A Aventura de Fossegrim”, edited by Musse Eco & Sustainable Design with original illustrations by Nicolau, and supporting the Closing Concert, a spin-off of the original application that made it possible to premier the integral version of the original compositions of Jorge Salgueiro (composer and director) and Nelda Magalhães (storyteller), accompanied by the Orquestra Clássica da Academia de Música de Lagos, and featuring João Pedro Cunha as Fossegrim, the virtuous violin player. Evidence of this solid partnership with the Lagoa Municipality is the extension of the project, out from the programme, to the year 2016-2017, with 200 pre-school children of the Agrupamento de Escolas do Rio Arade de Lagoa.

Summary of bilateral results

To the consolidation of the strategic between the Project Promoter and the Partners, was fundamental the Official Project Presentation Week that happened in October 2015 with the warmth presence of the Norwegian partners Jon Egil Henriksen, Luana Gundersen, Susanne Helgeland and Synnøve Anfinsen, as well as local partners. The project had a high impact in both promoter and partners (engaged priory or after initial application): the artistic entity Haugesund Kulturskole (Jon EgilHenriksen, Luana Gundersen, Synnøve Gallis Anfinsen, Susanne Helgeland), the School Community (Kindergarten Teachers, School Directors and parents/tutors), the Municipality (Lagoa City Hall Chairman of Education, Lagoa City Hall Mayor, Lagoa Technicians and Agents) and the Norwegian Community in the Algarve (the Norwegian Consulate in the Region). This allowed the project to grow and extrapolate initial goals, achieving deeper effect in the community and exceeding expectations from everyone involved.
