Description

The project will focus on promoting active citizenship and the defence of Human Rights of domestic violence victims. In addition, it also aims to contribute to the effective implementation of public policies in this matter, thus improving the implementation of national and EU regulations on the prevention, protection and support for victims of these crimes. The promoter will adopt a bidirectional approach in order to overcome the isolation of these women and their poor access to the justice system. On the one hand, the work will focus on victims, in particular immigrant women from the Guinea region, whose domestic violence problems are exacerbated by cultural issues. The goal will be to improve their access to information about the criminal charges in cases of domestic violence (information materials, awareness raising actions, creation of a self-help group).

Summary of project results

Domestic violence is a serious problem in Portugal. This project promoted active citizenship in defence of the rights of domestic violence victims and strived to contribute to the effective implementation of public policies in this matter. The project focused in particular on immigrant women from the Guinea region, which are severely affected, and on training for law enforcement agents and other stakeholders. Between victims and police agents, there were 40 direct beneficiaries. The project was visible and effective, according to the promoter - a set of information materials was prepared and distributed among relevant public bodies; sessions were held with law enforcement agents; a mutual support group for victims was created and held meetings for exchange of experiences and training on Human Rights; and other awareness-raising actions were carried out, including the creation and dissemination of a film.
