Description

The promoter and its partner, which aid women in vulnerable contexts facing unexpected pregnancies and carries out prevention work with young people and families at a local level, faced concrete needs for capacity building and will optimize the use of their resources and professionalize their services, thereby becoming more self-sustainable. The project aims at (1) improving the qualifications of managers, employees and volunteers in providing their services; (2) improving the effectiveness of technical procedures through managerial changes, which includes the development of a evaluation database; (3) bolstering the capacity for activities with financial return as well as implementing a database which allows for a more effective administrative management; (4) improving the specific managerial skills regarding volunteer work and broadening the activities carried out by the volunteers; and (5) fostering cooperation and sharing of resources among concerned entities.

Summary of project results

A NGO which provides support on pregnancy and parenting and a volunteer group associated with St John’s Hospital in Porto participated in this project, which aimed at improving their effectiveness and achieving synergies through their collaboration. Both organizations considered the project a success, and plans to improve upon the work carried out had already been initiated by the time it was concluded. Training was provided to 45 leaders, staff members and volunteers on subjects such as strategic management, governance, marketing, partnership management, entrepreneurship and team management – these sessions were deemed to be very useful. Also, databases were created or improved upon, covering various relevant areas and expanding and systematising data collection and improving its management. Several measures were also taken in order to improve fundraising activities and volunteer management, and the project also provided valuable networking opportunities with other organisations.
