Description

The project aims at training customs officers in special driving technique and the provision of first aid as well as increasing the ability to communicate in a selected foreign language, with particular focus on specialist and slang vocabulary, which in turn will improve the safety of people and strengthen fair market competition, because both factors contribute to the protection of the Schengen area, which is beneficial for the project parties environment and all Schengen members. Another purpose of the project is to establish contacts with the Norwegian customs administration as regards the exchange of professional knowledge and establishing permanent cooperation.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was to improve professional qualifications and the safety of officers at work, including an increase in the number of successful detentions made during pursuits while also mitigating risks. Within the project implementation, 61 five-day training sessions were organised for 732 customs officers. The training sessions were both theoretical (regarding legislation) and practical (on-track exercises) and focused on e.g.: special driving techniques for emergency vehicles; aid in situations of life and health danger. English and Russian language courses were also organised. Apart from specialist vocabulary (related to customs, law, taxes, customs control, body search, informing about one's rights, issuing personal commands etc.), the participants learnt also criminal slang.

Summary of bilateral results

The initial plan of cooperation with the Directorate of Norwegian Customs and Excise achieved no concrete results due to the lack of engagement of the Norway partner.
