Description

The objective of the project is to enhance health conditions in society and to limit health inequalities by preventing or decreasing morbidity caused by lifestyle. The project consists of two components: 1) a health promotion programme addressed to the general public of the county/ poviat; and 2) a Preventive Programme entitled "Take care of your heart and enjoy your life", which is addressed to inhabitants of the country aged 35 and above. The latter is a three-phase screening programme on cardiovascular diseases. About 16.400 people will undergo the 1st degree screening test, and about 3.300 patients will take the specialist cardiology tests. These people will also be informed on cardiovascular diseases and its risk factors. In addition to this, the project will organise the distribution of leaflets with information on cardiovascular diseases as well as five educational picnics.

Summary of project results

The project ‘Reducing the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in Zyrardow county by health promotion and disease prevention’, scheduled to be carried out by Zyrardów county based on the Operational Programme PL13, within the confines of Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014, demonstrates a high rate of mortality among the population of Zyradów county, which exceeds almost a 20% average mortality rate in the country per 100 000 inhabitants. Almost a half of all deaths in Zyrardów county is caused by cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, there is a high rate of morbidity among the population of Zyrardów county caused by cardiovascular diseases, which is reflected in a large number of patients hospitalized suffering from the aforementioned diseases – 2 063 patients in 2013 in Zenon Tokarski Hospital, Health Centre of Western Mazowsze Sp. Z o.o., a total number of 11 047 patients hospitalized, i.e. almost 19% of total number of patients hospitalized in this facility. Risk factors, which result in cardiovascular diseases and affect directly lifestyle, are: smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight and obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, insufficient consumption of fruit and vegetables as well as poor physical activity. The two first factors contribute to 50% of deaths as a result of cardiovascular diseases. The project ‘Reducing the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in Zyrardow county by health promotion and disease prevention’, which consists of two components – Health promotion programme addressed to general public of Zyrardów county (approx. 76 600 inhabitants in 2012) and Preventive Programme ‘Take care of your heart and enjoy your life’, addressed to 43 000 inhabitants of the county, aged 35 and beyond (in this age category the rate of deaths due to cardiovascular diseases exceeds 99% of all deaths), will contribute directly to achieve the results of the programmes: ‘Health promotion programme among local communities’ and ‘Disease prevention programme among local communities’. Among local communities the disease preventive programme will be realized ‘Take care of your heart and enjoy your life’, aimed at 43 000 inhabitants of Zyrardów county, aged 35 and beyond. As a result of the project implementation, health awareness of the local community will increase, particularly in terms of a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to the project a decline in social inequality as well as promotion of healthy lifestyle will take place.
