This project was aimed at decreasing the level of morbidity and mortality related to lung and bronchial cancers by raising awareness of pathogens and the ways to eliminate them, and by increasing the accessibility of medical services, including screening programmes and diagnostics. The project was directed to all poviat citizens. The aim was accomplished through a preventive programme which consisted of i.e.: the promotion of proper patterns of healthy lifestyles, including, in particular, a smoke-free life, targeted at adolescents and adults; disease prevention through the controlling of risk factors, including, in particular, the introduction of correct patterns of behaviour while using pesticides and plant protection agents; and prevention of the consequences of lung cancer through its early detection and treatment by screening tests for people particularly vulnerable to lung and bronchial cancer.
