Description

In the county of Koszalin, there is a strong need to halt and prevent the spread of cancer, and primarily the gastrointestinal tract, including colorectal cancer and lung diseases. This is confirmed by statistical data on mortality carried out in the county. The aim of the project is to improve public health and reduce social inequalities in health, and more specifically to reduce the incidence of diseases related to lifestyle in the county of Koszalin. The project is aimed at people directly threatened by the incidence of cancer, but also at the general population of the county, because of the benefits of an increased general awareness of the importance of health and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The project contributes to the improvement of mortality indicators, because it focuses on the prevention of the diseases with the greatest impact on this ratio. Through the project, a significant part of the population will be subject to the health screenings or take part in health promotion programs. The project will also create an epidemiological report on the issue.

Summary of project results

Prior to the project's commencement, the authorities of Koszalin carried out an analysis of the causes of death, indicating high mortality due to cancer in the following organs: respiratory system (bronchial and lung), prostate, large intestine. It was decided to plan and implement actions with financial support of PL13. As the support was granted 15,236 people participated in the prophylaxis part of the project (vs. 15.000 planned under this result, programme outcome 2). The first step of diagnostics was filling in a survey. Further were preliminary consultations with diagnostic decisions, laboratory tests (blood, cancer markers), tomographies, chest RTGs and summary consultations with recovery plans. Mentioned above actions were connected with informative campaigns aiming at raising awareness and promoting healthy lifestyle i.e picnics, workshops on healthy nutrition, contest for local employers titled „Socially responsible organisation” (26.750 participants vs 20.000 planned under this result, programme outcome 2). Publicity actions to attract participants of both components of the project i.e. prophylaxis and health promotion, were also conducted in local press, via project promoter’s webpage, leaflets and press conferences. The project has been implemented entirely in its material aspect, which let to elaborate 4 epidemiological reports on the health situation in the area of Koszalin (reports include analysis on conducted examinations and their effectiveness).
