Description

The goals of the project: documentation and transmission of authentic cultural values manifested in the traditional wooden architecture of Lublin Province and cultural heritage of Norway; sensitizing local communities to the problem of degradation of the multicultural heritage of Lublin; activation and involvement of local communities (youth, local authorities, teachers, cultural institutions) in the region development. By promoting important examples of historic wooden architecture and working with representatives of localities, where the problem of degradation occurs, the project aims to build awareness based on native traditions of material culture. To accomplish this project 5 towns from the Lublin Province and 1 from Norway have been chosen. They will become the object to research. Inventory and arrangement of the most representative, preserved examples of wooden architecture will be made. Educational seminar for schools on the traditional architecture of Lublin Province is planned, as well as seminars with local government to promote the wooden architecture of the towns of Lublin Province as a valuable part of the local cultural heritage. The Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) and Vestfold Museums (Norway), are the donor project partners in this project and they will - amongst others - cooperate in the sharing of experience related to the documentation of wooden historic monuments.

Summary of bilateral results

Cooperation assumed sharing with Norwegian partners experiences associated with the documentation of wooden historic monuments and methods for the conservation and reconstruction of wooden buildings. Partners collaborated in identifying the similarities and analogies in the wooden architecture of respective countries. Thanks to study tours to Norway and around Lublin Region, the partners defined the extent of towns degradation and learned about the methods of improving the quality of landscape using traditional wooden architecture. Norwegian partners provided materials allowing to create virtual model illustrating wooden architecture of Larvik. Polish and Norwegian towns were reconstructed in the virtual space and together with the historical street layout will be uploaded and made available in the form of 3D models on the website. A mobile exhibition dedicated to the wooden architecture in both countries was created and shown in Poland and Norway. Processing values brought up by traditional architecture of Lublin Region and Norway resulted in elaboration of methods of putting these values in contemporary context.
