Summary of project results

The project main beneficiaries were young artists and their immediate surroundings: teachers, artistic society and local community. The main aim of the project was to prepare modern programmes of musical education aiming at creating "a complete musician" - the name of Polish- Norwegian Music Incubator, was a combination of the idea of incubators supporting young people’s entry onto the labour market with an artistic education programme. The project priority axis was a cooperation between music schools and academies in Białystok and Bergen, with participation of music institutions in Podlasie and Hordaland. Moreover, all the project activities refered to the history and traditions of both countries and fostered a set of competencies necessary for functioning in today’s world. The initial diagnosis during the application phase indicated that both countries have a good capacity in terms of artists and institutions engaged in promotion of musical life, but the lack of proper policies, support programmes addressing the audience and artists did not allow for its proper capitalization. For that reason, the project partners were trying to experiment & test educational activities tailor-made for students and teachers and "open doors" of cultural institutions and support development of audience in given countries. They managed to: open school syllabuses and incorporate the international elements relating to both mentoring (contact with artists) and experience (travelling, adjusting to different circumstances and audience) as well as knowledge & skill concerning the up-to-date issues of music world. The project events were promoted in various media and through different channels (incl. social media) and use a very different venues - from classical concert halls, through houses of cultures, churches, open-air concerts. The partners succeed in gathering the audience and in making music more approachable and user-friendly. The project allowed to create of an international network of links between students, teachers, mentors and institutions.

Summary of bilateral results

The Complex of Music Schools in Białystok as a project leader took the responsibility and supervised the planning & organization of project, while all the partners were actively involved in preparation & production of particular parts of project accordingly. All the implementation issues, starting from the profile/choice of participants, content/artistic programme, logistics and some extra/facultative options were thoroughly discussed during weekly Skype conversations and based on the long-term planning. Owing to the project, the partners got the opportunity to gain understanding of various approaches towards artistic education, relations student-teacher, planning of cultural life development and simply - get the knowledge about who they are - Norwegians & Poles as human beings with our priorities, advantages & disadvantages. There is a proverb in Polish "Gdzie drwa rąbią to wióry lecą" - English equivalent "You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs"; and that was a clue of their cooperation, which sometimes difficult led partners to great results, in particular on the level of artistic & educational exchange. The partners organized a very good orchestra, chamber music and solo classes, which enriched by the musical market context were a very good inspiration for young musicians. The competition for composers gave a spur to the young promising artist - and provided them with the opportunity to work with masters, having the international recognition and expertise. The project partners met, analysed and diagnosed the present status of artistic education both in Poland and Norway - and draw the conclusions, which were published in a form of comparative analysis and participants feedback. The project capitalized on the established Polish-Norwegian cooperation from the previous programme, but there were only the project coordinators in both countries who remained the same. All the partners in Poland and in Norway were different and found through independent search.
