Description

The main objective of the project is the development and implementation of standardized and approved programs that can meet the needs of the target groups - prison staff and prison inmates. The specific objectives: 1.Increased competence of employees of prisons and detention centers, and prison inmates: The project will implement the "Paramedic" program, which will improve the competence of prison staff on issues such as working with people vulnerable to suicide and self-harm; prevention and management of risk of suicide and self-harm; actions in extreme situations. There will be increased focus on vulnerable groups in prisons with a focus towards Roma The project will provide professional qualifications for female prisoners under the Program "Weaver of hand-made textile", designed for the women prison inmates in the town of Sliven who are mainly of Roma origin.

Summary of project results

Basing on analysis of the current situation in prisons the project`s objective was to provide training modules, which would be adapted to the to current realities and needs and at the same time comparable with the EU programs and good practices. The main goal of the project has been achieved by developing and implementation of standardized and adapted programs that had better met the needs of the respective target groups: - Paramedic training program introduced for prison guards and employees at detention centers; - Training program for work with drug addicts for prison guards and detention center employees; - Training program for the professional qualification of Weavers of Hand-Made Textile for prisoners from Sliven – women of Roma origin; - A vast public awareness campaign covered by publications and interviews in the press, information agencies, and radio stations. The project has contributed to a better competence of both employees at prisons and detention centers, and prisoners and more focus on vulnerable groups in prisons. Providing of such trainings, held in such way can be used not just as basic instrument for improving working qualification, but also as reliable way for affecting the collective and individual working awareness. The training has created sense that practicing this profession is valued and protected the prison and detention centers employees from “professional burnout”.
