Description

In Sadovo municipality there is a noticeable trend of a high proportion of children dropping out of the educational system.The project objective is improving the preparation and motivation for school of vulnerable children aged 3 to 6 (main target group) including Roma for their long-term involvement in the educational system. The project expects to create a sustainable strategy to retain and attract children at risk in the educational system and the development of effective models for its implementation. The project aims to enhance the competence and motivation of parents of children at risk (second target group) for more active participation in the process of inclusion of children in the education system, as well as to increase the competence of pedagogical specialists (also target group) for more effective and successful integration of children into the educational system .

Summary of project results

The project was aimed at the social inclusion and attraction to the educational system of children at risk of dropping out of the kindergartens in Sadovo Municipality.The main target group of the project were children from the 10 kindergartens aged 3 to 6, at risk of dropping out and non-inclusion in the kindergartens. Another target group of the project was their parents, with whom we worked directly to change attitudes towards the education system and to develop skills to motivate and help children to join, regularly visit and actively participate in kindergartens. In order to achieve effective work with these target groups as project participants, the directors and pedagogical specialists from the 10 kindergartens, 4 Roma mediators, key project experts and representatives of the municipal administration who supported the work with the target groups, were also involved. Through the implementation of the project activities, children at risk of dropping out were identified, activities were carried out with them and their parents to stimulate the interest in learning. In order to achieve the sustainable change that was set in the project, the following events were carried out: A questionnaire survey was conducted to assess the risk of dropout, which analyzed the situation of each of the 510 children in kindergartens;Psychological counseling of 90 children at risk and their parents from the two psychologists involved in the project was conducted on the basis of the survey conducted;An interactive workshop for parents and children, where parents and children took part;There were 2 types of lessons learned (excerpted) to stimulate the interest of children at risk of learning. Participation took 173 children from preparatory groups (5-6 years);242 children from preparatory groups took lessons;Workshops were conducted;At the workshops, special attention was paid to the different languages - Bulgarian, Roma and Turkish - which children speak in their families; Equipment and furnishings were made for kindergartens;Construction and repair works in the 10 kindergartens were completed;Kitchen equipment was provided.As a result of the implementation of project,a deeper mutual acceptance and more active inclusion of children from minority communities was achieved, ethnic tolerance and understanding of the other culture was stimulated, thus supporting the integration and prevention of dropping out of children at risk of Roma origin from school in Sadovo municipality.
