Description

The project addresses the challenges facing cultural institutions in Bulgaria. The project aims at improving the management of cultural institutions and creating an intersectoral partnership network of cultural institutions from the 4 municipalities of Stara Zagora, Kazanlak, Chirpan and Radnevo. First, 15-20 of the stakeholders (cultural institutions, museums, community centres) will meet in Stara Zagora and set up a regional partnership network. Second, 5 public councils will be set up with the regional literary museums and the museums will join the network. Third, 40-50 of the network members will attend a training in capacity building, strategic planning, advocacy, literary tourism. Fourth, 2-year strategic plans for cultural tourism development in the 4 municipalities will be prepared. Finally, the stakeholders will exchange visits to discuss the plans and share good practices. The project will benefit the institutions and NGOs involved and the local community.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the challenges facing cultural institutions in Bulgaria. As a result of its implementation efficient museum management was developed which is to make museum institutions more attractive. A functioning model of civic engagement in strategic decision-making was created. The project had the following outputs: - 4 public and managing councils were set up; - 4 biannual strategic plans were developed; - a documentary about a model of regional cultural tourism was created; - a functioning model of civic engagement in strategic decision-making was created. As a result of the project the museum institutions in the region of Stara Zagora started working together. Learning together reinstated the partnership model of communication and created new opportunities, enriched the institutional vision with the best international practices and modern museum policies. The new forms of interaction encouraged the informal communities to be proactive and creative. The cause of literature museums and the future development of literature tourism in Bulgaria had prominent support. The innovative model of cultural tourism that was created will help attract new visitors. The public and managing councils that were set up will continue to function as public bodies and generate new creative ideas and modern decisions. The formed coalition will continue to support advocacy actions.
