Summary of project results

The project presented alternatives for the solution of daily problems in communication between parents, students, teachers, educators due to aggression. A Centre for support services and dissemination of prevention and self-help mechanisms for aggression among students was set up and methodology was developed. The services and the methodology of the Centre are used by all educational establishments in Pleven District and Lovech District. What is evident is lasting cooperation between schools, student hostels, NGOs, municipal and state structures and parents to combat aggression as well as self-help provided to establish the schools as real spiritual centres and not a stage for social conflicts and problems. The direct beneficiaries are the students from Vocational High School on Mechatronics, Pleven, and Student Dormitory, Lovech, aged 14-19. The students took part in all activities and were partners of public institutions, i.e. problem students together with representatives of the Student Parliament proposed and implemented ideas to fight aggression; communication skills and successful communication models were formed which contributed to a positive school environment; the target group sought support from the institutions responsible for education and they had the opportunity to take civic positions on vulnerable groups such as minority children, children from single-parent households, etc. The project sought public support and involved the parents and teachers as additional target groups. In addition, the project helped boost the experience of the organization in developing regional methodology for a specific problem which is a natural follow-up of the Association’s work on youth projects and its preparatory work and analysis before launching the project. The opening of the Centre is a sign and a stimulus for all stakeholders to put in efforts to reduce aggression among young people; the centre is the result of the project activities involving the students from the dormitory and the school students. The association will continue to finance by own means the professional services of psychologists in their future individual consultations with students, parents and teachers from Pleven and Lovech Districts.
