Description

The project addresses the challenges of the fight against drug abuse related to insufficient information about available drugs, treatment and professional help provided to drug addicts and their families. The project aims at improving the situation by encouraging parents to join informal groups and by attracting professionals as volunteers to support the work of the applicant. First, meetings will be arranged with social workers, lawyers and general practitioners in Plovdiv to draw their attention and to attract volunteers among them. Second, meetings with parents and representatives of the institutions will be held in the towns of Sliven, Bourgas and Lovech to raise their awareness, set up 3 parent groups and encourage them to support each other. The project will benefit about 100 families of drug addicts and 200 volunteers and will help the applicant expand and improve its services.

Summary of project results

The project was aimed at expanding the number of volunteering experts to the organisation – project promoter – and attracting new people to its main mission: support to the families of drug addicted. As a result of the project important contacts were established and will be used in the future when needed. The objective was to reach out about 150 people - experts and parents. In fact, more than 270 people were reached out with many young people among them. The impact is strong - 29 new volunteering experts got involved with expertise in the fields of law, social affairs and health. Good contacts were established with representatives of local authorities in the three target cities - Sliven, Burgas and Lovech. The project outcome in numbers was double overreached. The following meetings were held: two meetings with lawyers and social workers to introduce the project and the work of the organization; four workshops with General practitioners (GPs) and with parents and representatives of different institutions in Sliven, Burgas and Lovech. In addition to the work plan, a big meeting- workshop took place with 230 students and teachers in the foreign language school “Exsarh Josif” in Lovech. Two types of informational materials were produced and shared - a brochure about the project promoter’s profile and work on the project and another one, including advice for parents - essentials from the lectures delivered at the meetings. The project beneficiaries acquired new knowledge and increased their awareness of the drug addiction problems and on how to deal with them.
