Description

The project will promote youth volunteering in the Silesian Province. It will offer education through modern channels, i.e. webinars, web portals (co-created by young people) or gamification (this is one of the leading trends in 21c marketing, according to Harvard Business Review). Supported by facilitators, students will apply the newly acquired skills to design charitable events which will be assessed and the best projects will be recognised at Voluntary Action Gala. The project will be supported by a partner from Iceland, Rauði Krossin (Red Cross), whose members will develop education streams regarding hate speech prevention and response in youth communication (both online and direct contacts). The project will encourage approx. 300 students to become volunteers. They will learn that volunteering can help specific individuals and be a positive challenge and great fun.

Summary of project results

"In Poland, the levels of civic engagement and volunteering are below the average in Europe. This was confirmed by, among others, the Social Diagnosis and the research conducted by Klon/Jawor - only 14 per cent of Poles declare that they were involved in volunteering during the previous year. The aim of the project was to increase youth civic engagement and volunteering in the Silesian voivodship. During the project implementation, over 1,000 volunteers from c.40 school groups of volunteers developed and implemented 171 social projects, such as charity concerts or integration picnics. Short videos were prepared on14 of them. Training sessions were conducted, 200 meetings were organized for students interested in volunteering, gamification concept was introduced and a gala for summing up the project implementation was organized. The basic principles of gamification, including rules, techniques, mission, challenges and ranking of teams can be found on www.polichrom.pl Young people from 52 secondary schools in the Silesian voivodship were direct beneficiaries of all conducted activities. The project partner - the Red Cross from Iceland - provided expert and technical consultations, mainly on how to introduce the gamification mechanism in volunteering."

Summary of bilateral results

"The collaboration with an organisation from Iceland allowed us to focus on promoting voluntary action against hate speech and discrimination. The joint efforts, including a video conference and a webinar on the use of gamification in education, provided inspiration for both our organisation and the project beneficiaries, i.e. teachers and students. We promoted our activities in Iceland, e.g. during contest for the Icelandic audience award for the best school project in Poland. "
