Description

The projects aims at enhancing knowledge of inhabitants of Dolnośląskie region on refugees from the Middle East. It is a response to needs indicated by schools (growing negative attitudes towards migrants), by the coalition Wrocław Welcomes Refugees (enhancing competencies in work with refugees) and diagnosed in our work - public services are not prepared to deal with foreigners. We will prepare publications containing tools for classes in schools (1500) and publications for healthcare and social assistance workers containing recommendations for work with refugees (1000 for each group); they will be consulted during pilot trainings (60 participants). Activists will participate in 4 trainings (10 persons each), and inhabitants of Wrocław will be invited to 4 open meetings with refugees and activists (120 persons). A multimedia platform will be created for Internet users on the situation of refugees. A seminar and PR activities will promote the project and developed tools.

Summary of project results

"In 2015/16, in Poland a heated discussion started on offering assistance to refugees from the Middle East. Teachers reported to the Nomada Association the need for lessons on refugees and their rights. Reports from NGOs indicated that public institutions are not prepared to deal with foreigners. At the same time, many persons were willing to support refugees, but they lacked appropriate competencies. The aim of the project was to improve among the inhabitants of Dolny Śląsk region the knowledge on the problems of refugees. Four meetings were organised (6 films, 11 guests) that gathered about 350 participants, and each of them was documented by a film available on the Nomada channel on YouTube. The situation of refugees was described in 5 articles published in Dziennik Opinii (online magazine). Pro-refugee activists took part in four trainings (8-13 persons for each training). The publication ""Women and men refugees. Manual for teachers"" (1500 copies) can help prepare school lessons. For social and healthcare services important in the process of integration (healthcare, social assistance, implementation of Individual Integration Programs) two publications were prepared: ""Women and man refugees. A guidebook for healthcare personnel"" (1000 copies) and ""Women and men refugees. A guidebook for social work and environmental assistance"" (1000 copies)."
