Description

The aim of the project „Environment manufactures” is to use the historical old towns of Kuldiga and Drobak as the stage for cross-disciplinar contemporary cultural activities developed as the result of creative exchange in cooperation between artists from Latvia, Norway, Iceland and Lithuania. This exchange promotes the dynamics of the province towns’ cultural environment. The project's central activities are 2 creative environment actions – one in Kuldiga and one in Drobak in 2014. Environment actions will be developed as 3 parallel running creative workshops or manufactures in such fields as music, street theatre and contemporary art. These will result in art actions in the historical environment of both towns showcasing the results in performances, exhibitions, art actions. All the activities will be organized as open air events, discovering new, unknown event venues in Kuldigaold town and Drobak, which will be identified and improved within the project, inviting artists to make interpretations of the local cultural heritage according to the developed artistic concept.Department of Culture of Frogn Municipality is project partner from Norway, Youth Culture centre „Hitt Husitt” is project partner from Iceland and „Artist’s Club” – group of young artists is project partner from Lithuania. Partners will be involved in organising of workshops, art actions and organisation of project activities.

Summary of project results

Project "Environmental manufactory" aim was to create Kuldīga and Drobak historic towns on the stage interdisciplinary contemporary cultural activities, they form the creative exchange of cooperation with Latvian, Norwegian, Icelandic and Lithuanian artists, thereby contributing to the cultural dynamics of small towns. The project objective was reached by organizing a central activity or 2 creative environment shares - one Kuldīga, other Drobak. Environmental shares were created as three parallel ongoing workshop or manufactory in the fields of music, street theater and modern art. The workshop was held at the end of the shares of both the urban environment, which were combined in a workshop within the framework created during Products - performances, exhibitions, art shares. All measures have been designed as an open-air venue, opening a new one, both historic cities still not yet fully discovered, non-traditional venues. They were identified and developed within the project, inviting artists to create cultural heritage interpretation in accordance with the development of a single share of each of the urban environment concept.

Summary of bilateral results

Cooperation objective of the measure is to maintain the already existing networks with Icelandic partners, to develop new creative initiative to diversify the cultural activities in Kuldiga, plan new cooperation projects and both partners creative group mobility, as well as exploring the Icelandic partner experience events in historical settings. Since the Latvian cultural processes of decentralization principle shall be introduced gradually and economic situation affected is significantly delayed, the town cultural environment as a whole can be characterized as traditional, which promotes youth drain from the regions. The applicant believes that this situation need to implement cooperation projects with foreign partners in order to promote Kuldīga cultural dynamics of contemporary cultural activities available to citizens, encourage creativity and public participation, promoting the city's ability to attracting
