Description

The level of the Society’s members’ self-esteem is low due to their limited capacity to participate in social activities, low income and the limited accessibility environment, which result in social apathy. The aim of the project is to strengthen civil society in Mālpils district by increasing capacity of the disabled people and their supporter association “Believe in yourself!”, to attract financial support for regular and long-term operation of the association. It will help reduce discrimination, enhance motivation of the NGO’s members to overcome the current exclusion. Activities include joining the umbrella NGO for people with disabilities SUSTENTO, participation in the parliament discussions about the disabled people, networking and experience exchange, trainings, etc. The project target group is people with disabilities and the poor and the needy members of the society.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to strengthen civil society in Mālpils district by increasing capacity of the disabled people and their supporter association “Believe in yourself!” (Association) and to attract financial support for regular and long-term operation of the Association. Project helped reduce discrimination, enhance motivation of the NGO’s members to overcome the current exclusion. Completed project activities contributed to support of the disabled and other disadvantaged groups, promoted society’s positive attitude towards the disabled. The disabled educating and skill development according to everyone’s health and abilities was part of the project. Taking part of public organization SUSTENTO and discussions in the parliament contributed to sustainable development of the Association, participation in decision-making processes at the national level, and development of the Association’s action policy. Activities organized by the Association and its website’s maintenance has attracted new members and popularized activities of the Association. Implementation of project activities place Malpils district.
