Description

The project aims at eliminating obstacles for civil society to cooperate and collaborate in solving animal protection issues by continuous development of the Public Animal Police movement launched within the framework of the project "Strengthening Capacity of Animal Protection Organizations in the Area of Animal Protection". The project activities covers entire Latvia. The key measures include providing an informative platform for the main animal protection issues and solutions of animal related problem situations as well as modes and forms of public cooperation in decision-making and measures related to animal protection. The expected results include shaping of a responsible and informed public opinion in the area of animal protection and attitude to animals as well as increasing the number of independent volunteers, developing public animal police movement, encouraging use of the website http://www.dzivniekupolicija.lv not only by non-governmental organizations and population but also for the purpose of practical activities of municipalities and responsible authorities for the sake of animal protection.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project is to promote more active and effective involvement of animal protection organisations in the drafting of policies as well as to involve the society in dealing with the issues of animal protection. Aim have been achieved, with the implement of the project activities: 1) public education: there have been conducted 36 informative lectures in educational institutions, attended by 1391 students; association participated in 18 public events (total 54 days) with stand, speaking to event visitors; have been implemented 6 information campaigns; the informative materials for seasonal animal protection issues have been developed; have been prepared 6 videos about volunteering work and animal protection; have been provided 128 legal advices about animal protectiona and welfare; information has been updated on website http://www.dzivniekupolicija.lv (80 new entries) and on website www.ulubele.org (65 new entries); 2) strengthening the capacity of association: 19 activities in various forms of participation (working groups, applications, etc.) have been implemented; have been given 13 interviews and the association views to the media; have been implemented a cooperation with 13 animal protection organizations (covering all Latvian regions). Audience response has been so great that the results are higher than planned. The target group has been involved in a diverse range of: classes, voluntary work and informative campaigns - gaining additional knowledge and experience on the protection of animals. The Project results and informative materials remain publicly available on the associations website http://www.ulubele.org. Educational work with the public and participation in public administration will continue even after the project ends.
