Description

Early School Leaving (ESL) is a social phenomenon and a problem not only for educational institutions but for society as a whole. Early school leavers lack skills and qualifications; therefore they face serious problems on the labor market. Both partner institutions in this project face challenges related to ESL as well as special programs for reintegration ESL students into education. Following a preparatory visit to the Malakoff high school, both partners decided to establish cooperation aimed at continuing the work which we had already started. In this project, we are going to exchange experiences and good practices in the prevention and treatment of ESL. Also in the technical field, we would like to get to know the Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs in both institutions. It will be interesting and useful to study how the ESL students can be included into the technical professions in both of the cooperating institutions. The cooperation is expected to strengthen the support for teachers and trainers who will learn to better accept students’ shortcomings and help young people acquire basic life skills necessary for their personal development.

Summary of project results

Both partner institutions have dropouts and special programs for reintegration of disadvantaged youngsters into education. For the sustainability both partners are going to implement best practices in prevention and treatment ESL (early school leaving). We exchanged best practices in prevention and treatment ESL; introduced VET programs in both institutions and inclusion of the dropouts into the technical professions. The cooperation strengthened the support for teachers, so they will accept the students’ difficulties and disabilities, helping young people acquire the competences necessary for their personal development. The outcome is takeover and adaptation best practices to practices existing actually in the institutions. The teachers could learn pedagogical approaches in which it is important to connect learning and practical activities, to pay special attention to the social and existential problems of the young people discussing innovative solutions to motivate the students for learning.
