Description

While the average age is getting higher in Europe, elderly people get more and more lonely. Though, they would have an important role to create a more sustainable world not only with new ideas and inventions but their knowledge is also needed. Thus the project aims to foster an inter generational learning between young and old people by the development of an appropriate model. The model is partly based on Norwegian experiences that will be studied in a study trip as well as presented by the project partner, the Oslo based Mangfold i Arbeidslivet. In the pilot phase 60 elderly and young people will be involved different workshops from local schools and elderly homes, a special camp will be organized for them in the foundation’s education center, and a sustainability idea collection will be compiled. For the dissemination of the developed model it will be adapted in 10 different venues and at least 10 other CSOs will be trained for its use.

Summary of project results

The project addressed unsustainable lifestyle patterns and the broadening gap between elder and younger generations by the means of the development and introduction of a unique and pioneering intergenerational educational programme. The project included the development of a methodological toolkit and the provision of one elderly-youth summer camp as well as 12 elderly-youth learning workshop bridging caring homes and primary schools, involving nearly 200 elderly persons and more than 200 pupils. In order to support the dissemination, the educational programme has been officially accredited, was disseminated through 3 trainings nearly for 100 teachers and social workers, and was presented at 7 educational forums at various locations nationwide for about 30 CSOs and more than 50 local actors. Dissemination was also supported by short films, a media and a crowd-sourcing campaign as a result of which several hundred thousand people could have been informed about the initiative.

Summary of bilateral results

Though the project had a Norwegian partner, Mangfold I Arbeidslivet (MiA), its role was limited to the organization of a study trip during which colleagues of the promoter visited and learnt about various intergenerational learning initiatives in Norway. In the later project phases MiA did not have any other roles and did not participate in the curricula development, therefore the project has not really contributed to the bilateral relations.
