Description

In Csepel (XXI. district of Budapest) after the shutdown of the big local industry the number of the socially disadvantaged people was growing strongly. Our aim and intention is to develop early educational abilities and skills of socially disadvantaged (mainly Gypsy) expectant or young mothers, with the reduction of their psychological burdens, and improving their earlier educational skills. Our target group is the expectant or young mothers attending the antenatal clinic and hospitalized in Hospital of Southern Pest. They are regularly visited by a social worker experienced at childbirth as well as early education. We regularly organize for them baby-mommy club and activities. We want to cooperate with the local council of Csepel district, the antenatal clinic of Csepel, the Central Reformed Parish of Csepel and the Hospital of Southern Pest.

Summary of project results

The Pathmosz Foundation is committed to provide mental support for expectant or new disadvanatged mothers in order to enable them to give all that is needed for their child’s development, despite their own situation. The organisation emloyed a a full time social worker, who contacted the mothers, had interviews and supportive conversations with them. A baby-mother club had been set-up, where mothers and children could regulalry attend, to receive help in raising their chikdren. The project managed to involve 5 mothers who regularly attended the club and 17 mothers, who occasionally attended. The progress of the realization has proved to be much slower and managed to reach a much smaller number of families than planned, due to the necessity of building trust with the target group. This slow process would not lead to the achievement of the planned indicators within the scope of the project. However, the Foundation is trying to maintain its services from other sources.
