Description

The Study Room project aims to raise awareness and public attention on a complex and serious social issue: the learning difficulties of socially disadvantaged children, and also the harms and dangers following this problem. The major goal of the project and the related campaign is to urge civic problem solving and cooperation. The central activity of the project is built on the idea of an installation: an imaginary (however way too realistic) apartment, which presents the home circumstances of a child living in deep poverty. The installation is going to be presented by a street action in a public area of Budapest. In the first place its goal is to distract and surprise the passengers, but the campaign itself has a farseeing mission. During the project we implement a public event, we present the installation outside of the capital in 3 different cities of Hungary, and we create an informative website promoting the course of the campaign. As a result, with the installation we will make it more understandable and evident for the city inhabitants that our future and success as a society depends strongly on the life chances and educational capacity of the socially disadvantaged children. Thanks to the website and the campaign a broader audience will learn more about those civic organisations and movements which work for the development of vulnerable youth. So the citizens, who thought they have nothing to do with this issue, can re-think their own contribution and opportunities.

Summary of project results

The Study Room project aims to raise awareness and public attention on a complex and serious social issue: the learning difficulties of socially disadvantaged children, and also the harms and dangers following this problem. The major goal of the project and the related campaign is to urge civic problem solving and cooperation. The central activity of the project is built on the idea of an installation, a thought-provoking artistic object which presents the home circumstances of a child living in deep poverty. During the project we implemented a public event, we presented an exhibition in 3 different cities of Hungary, and we created an informative website promoting the course of the campaign. As a result with the help of the many media coverages about the project (altogether 26) we made it more understandable and evident for the city inhabitants that our future and success as a society depends strongly on the life chances and educational capacity of the socially disadvantaged children.
