Description

Sexual violence (SV) is surrounded by myths and ignorance. This further endangers victims and make holding perpetrators accountable impossible. More cases are publicized recently, but Hungarian public and communities are not equipped with the necessary information to react without victim-blaming. This leads for the victims to be silenced and the perpetrators to go unnoticed or even justified. If this trend continues, it will again silence the victims as it happened in 2011 (stats show that in 2011 reporting of SV radically dropped after a highly and badly publicized case). Young adults (univ.students) are especially vulnerable and lack information. The goal of the project is to provide tools and knowledge to counteract this trend and bring it directly to students. As a result there will be heightened awareness among young adults based on proper knowledge, concrete arguments and further educational tools for free use. Project will achieve its goals through much needed and easily accessible information on SV, through a "parable"; (safe-topic) performance by 2 actors highlighting the flaws in the myths, a discussion following the performance where participants can discuss the dilemmas. Videos of the scenes of the performance and the info materials will stay online and will be widely distributed. The press will be involved. Direct target groups are students and teachers of the 3 participating universities and indirect target group the wider Hungarian public through the online platforms and the press. There will be a strong cooperation with the university student bodies, the 2 actors and the press.

Summary of project results

Sexual violence (SV) is surrounded by myths and ignorance. This further endangers victims and make holding perps accountable impossible. More cases are publicized recently, but Hungarian public and communities are not equipped with the necessary information to react without victim-blaming. This leads for the victims to be silenced and the perps to go unnoticed or even justified. Young adults (univ.students) are especially vulnerable and lack information. We collaborated with universities for dissemination of information. 100 young people attended the premiere and we achieved several hundred thousand people by the press and univerity communication.
