Description
Children living at the Roma settlement of Bag are struggling with constant failure in school. Therefore most of them do not study further and do not try to break out of the settlement, they ’get lost’. The aim of the project is to support these children in order to improve their school record. Their methods are based on the development of cognitive and emotional skills, our football team provide children with an alternative community. The project involves high school and university students for the sake of social dialogue and responsibility. The project improves several basic skills of the children. Members of the football team are motivated while our volunteers become more sensitive socially. Children will take part in the sessions on a weekly basis. Members of the football team attend trainings and play matches regularly. The direct target audience is the children of the Roma settlement in Bag and the volunteers. Case-discussions will be held with the local professionals.
Summary of project results
500 people live in the segregated Roma settlement of Bag.The disadvantages they face lead to academic failures,loss of ambition,even drugs and crime.The program provides children with motivation and a sense of community,improves their school performance.All planned activities have been carried out.They’ve reached out to parents,developing mutual trust and credibility.They’ve involved new volunteers(111)and local participants(90)in higher numbers than planned.Local coordinators regularly visited the families of participating children,and documented their feedback.Their media coverage and social media presence has been continuously improving.Volunteers and participants planned and developed activities together.Through the project,the organisation has developed long-term,reliable presence in the settlement,while also affecting the majority population.In the future,the program will be supported by long-term collaboration with local institutions,intense volunteer involvement,fundraising efforts.
