Description

The program’s aim is to preserve the disappearing Roma traditions and to reduce the problem of children and young Roma people’s identity and foster their integration. Its specific aim is to change the attitudes of children and young people and fight against racism and hate speech in an innovative way through the language of fashion and design and with non-formal methods of learning. The direct target groups of the project are Roma and non-Roma children and young people from different schools. The project’s indirect target group is the relatives of the involved children and their local community. Main activities are organizing the Creative arts against racism - fashion workshop for youth: skill-developing training in fashion and design based on the traditions of the Roma fashion and organizing ‘Get to know the Roma’ - interactive arts workshop: complex conflict management and skills development with the tools of arts in and outside of educational institutions.

Summary of project results

Racism especially the ethnic prejudices against Roma people is significantly presented among youngsters. The objective of the project was to strengthen the social integration of Romas and to facilitate awareness rising, tackling against racist hate speech and attitude forming through a complex art program. There were altogether 33 interactive and integrated workshops were organized in 5 venues, and with 80 participants. The aim of these workshops was to ensure a meeting place where Roma and non Roma people could meet and learn about each other, about the differences of cultures and traditions. 42 children and youth between the age of 11 and 14 participated in the fashion workshops in two groups: Roma traditional costumes and jewellery making. The project promoter announced a countrywide competition in which 82 pieces were received. During the contest the project promoter hold several school activities, helped the preparation of designs and the realization of them. The project promoter ensured the necessary materials. The best clothes were exhibited in the closing event where more than 163 people could see them. The webpage of the organization was also developed.
