Description

The nationalization of school book publishing, the limited choice available among teaching books caused problems in quality, content and methodology of teaching and learning in Hungarian primary and secondary schools. The aim of the project is to review recently available school books, to secure interest representation of teachers, parents and students, to carry out a joint action, to create and offer methodological support, and to share international best practices in Hungary. The expected outcome is to overcome the one-sided approach to history teaching, to secure colorful education opportunities to children that offers multi-approach learning and to strengthen the teacher and parent communities through the professional analysis of the most problematic parts of school books and securing independent support for sensitive periods to all actors in the field. The outputs of the project are a partial school book analysis, a review by experienced teachers, also involving related teaching professions, students and parents. Results: resources, alternative tools available on internet and social media; students, parents, teachers gain sense of cooperation, responsibility over education materials, influencing teaching, advocacy. The direct target groups are 900 teachers from different fields, minimum 5 students and 5 parents involved in book analysis, 5 cooperative partner organization. The indirect target group is 10-15 thousands teachers, 10-15 thousands of parents and approx 100 thousands students, more broadly about 700,000 pupils and 1,5 million parents, students in higher education on history faculties (no data) and wider society who will have the chance for making choice over education material. Summary of project results

The substandard textbooks,provided by the Hungarian state,usurp on the rights of the students and the teachers. Operation of fresh online interfaces. Monitoring the new editions of the textbook. Revision of new textbooks. Informing the professionals and the public. Professional support for history teachers.Calling the attention to the anomalies of the textbooks provided by the state. The quality of these textbooks became a public affair.The topic had a significant media coverage. The state secretary of education was forced to react. 10 thousand supporting signatories (teachers,students,parents) for the usage of the familiar historical atlas. Three public events have been organized and eight publications have been completed. Organisations have involved through their members and trough a widely released questionnaire,Fb pages,websites. 95 page long textbook analysis, raising awareness. Participating in debates,creating professional materials,communication.
