Description

There is not any cultural place in Miskolc that would be available for local and foreign amateur artists and music bands. Those artists who are not following the mass culture usually have no chance to introduce themselves, however they do not stop creating and developing even if they have to face difficulties. The objective of the project is to gather the amateur artist (between the age of 16 and 45), to strengthen their individual and communal participation and to introduce their art in a centralized place thus they get new motivation and inspiration. It aims to sustain the initiation independently. By this, the social network of civics and artist in Miskolc will grow. Every art attempts that lack financial sources will get the chance of performing in front of an audience. The project aims to help participants to be able to manage themselves thus several trainings and workshops will be organized. A community place will be renovated and operating where subcultures can meet. During the project a research will be elaborated about the subcultural scenes of the town thus the organization gets a complex image of the lives of young amateur artist.

Summary of project results

The project’s main aim was to create a community space where the different subcultures can meet, and where independent artists can perform cultural activities. The project promoter wanted to sustain this community space with a special charity shop which promotes the products of artists as well. The community space was dedicated to artists and other civil society organizations or citizens groups, the project promoter also aimed at enhancing collaboration among these actors in Miskolc as well. A volunteer researcher concluded a situation analysis about the conditions and lives of amateur artists, and potentially, mobilizable artists in the city. After the research, the concerned artists were addressed and involved by indirect community development processes led by external experts. The community space which served as a charity shop at the same time was created by the project promoter and the involved community, they even created a website for the place as well: www.sufnibolt.hu. Thematic exhibitions were organized in this community space with the aim to promote local amateur artists and the sustainability of the community space. The artists were offered to take part at different kinds of trainings as well, in order to improve their communication, resource management skills and knowledge. Unfortunately after the project closure the implementers were not able to raise enough resources to sustain the community space, and had to look for another place to carry on their activities.
