Description

The project aims to facilitate the emergence of positive peer role models and to boost the self-esteem, the lobbying power and the equality of chances of the young inhabitants of 5 Roma settlements supported by the Hungarian Maltese Charity (HMC) and in Bag. In a longer perspective, it also aims to set up a peer education network, widely spread the peaceful conflict resolution technique and increase the acknowledgement and integration of the Roma. Main project activities include the project-long training of 6 „young trainers” from the Roma settlements, who, having an „on-the-job-training”, will lead themselves a „voluntary training” for another 20 young Roma (planning and execution of 2 socially beneficial voluntary projects involving another 150-200 persons). Together with the project-long development of 10 social workers, a closing conference enables taking further steps towards setting up a peer education network supported by the cooperating partner organizations.

Summary of project results

In the project the organisation defined the following problems relating to settlements of Roma people. They have difficulties with accomodating to others, lack of self-esteem and participation in social issues/events.Another crucial point in this issue the segregation of Roma people as the biggest problem.
