Description

Supported living and employment conditions of people with intellectual disabilities are not resolved yet in Hungary. The objective is to prepare the target group for an independent living through appropriate work activities matching their needs and characteristics. By running the project they collect knowledge and experience of event organization with people with intellectual disabilities and as a result we may start a non-profit, even a for-profit enterprise later. The events of the organization have confirmed more to the immediate needs of those affected, due to their involvement in the organization. The activities have been training. On the training sessions led by specialists, 6 specific events have been organized. In the fremae of the project an event organizer group of young people of rare diseases have been trained, which have organized numerous events for inclusive target groups. The project promoters have initiated a wide range of professional communication for the dissemination and to launch more cooperation. The target group was youth with ID (especially WS and other rare diseases), their families and their environment. They had a partneship with Norwegian Frambu and ELTE BGGYK which have supported provide support for the materials and methodology. The menotoring ensured by the Frambu supported the project promoters to use the tools in order the young people can become more independent - e.g. through participating in life style camp, and trainings, where they learnt practical tasks, which are necessary in the independent life.

Summary of project results

In the frame of the project series of workshops and trainings were ensured for young people living with Williams Syndrome (or other rare diseases) and their parents (together 65 persons)- in order the young people can become more independent. They have learnt a lot of basic tasks (e.g. shopping, basic housework etc.) and htey have been trained in order they can form an event organizer groups, which can coordinate catering and organize programs for children. This idea have been built on the strenghts of the young people living with Williams Syndrome - who are usually very sociable. This groups have organized 6 different event, in which they have included other disabled and not disabled people, too. They have participated also in a camp, where they had an opportunity to spend some days without the support of their parents and organized a training for local not disabled students, too. The event organizer team have received more invitations to events organized by other organizations, and hopefully they can continue this service in the future, related to which they have made a business plan, too. They have also edited and published a methodological material presenting the methods and results of the project. It's also important to highlight that thank to the numerous media appearanes, millions of citizens have been informed about the situation of people with WS, and have been sensitized regarding the topic of rare illnesses and also inclusion.

Summary of bilateral results

The cooperation with the donor partner - Frambu - was very important, because during their mentoring, and lectures - they have given to the project promoter numerous tools and aspect regarding the proggress of independent life of disabled people. This development was also important for the young people - who have gained experience of success, and for their partents, who have let more independence to their children, and who have experienced that their children can do more, than they have supposed eearlier.
