Description

Our purpose is to improve the quality of life of the involved families, where mothers are prison inmates. We also aim at improving the approach of the society and that of the penitentiary institutions in connection with prisoners. Our direct target groups are the detained women and their families, enforcement institutions, employees of penitentiary institutions, other associations, and family support institutions. The project activities complement the currently operating and available social service system. Thus we realize activities which are also able to handle and solve the interdependent problem of families. These activities are family mentoring, family clubs, family care and life coaching modules, contact days for the families and tale therapy sessions. We can help our target groups in the reintegration to society after their release from prison. We consider it important that the results obtained become useful and practicable methods among the direct target group, penitentiary institutions and the civil society.

Summary of project results

In Hungary,approx.40,000 children are affected by the problem that one parent is in prison. This is a exemplary program, since these families receive little help from the community. The mentors visited the families on a regular basis during the project and is continued after the end of the program on a voluntary basis. Our main aim was to illuminate new perspectives on the topic of reintegration. The reintegration is successfull if we deal with the complex problems the inmates face. Our goal is to develop a methodology, which is well-suited for institutions who deal with this issue on a daily basis.Further aims are the strengthening of relationship between prisoners and their children and promoting of the process of social reintegration. Positive changes have been achieved in the field of family relations in the majority of the involved families.During the family days families could spend a couple of hours in intimate atmosphere, outside of the prisons. Our partner in this project was Heves County Penal Institution.
