Description

We aim to facilitate disabled people to be able to enforce their basic rights in terms of everyday activity like participate in cultural events, do their office routine, so their self-management would improve. The objective of the project is to open the world for seriously disabled people by providing activity possibilities with special bicycles. It is expected to develop the mental and physical health of the target group as well as to reduce or even reverse monothematic point of view. This will help to integrate the target group to change the attitude of the society towards them. We participate in 6 sports events, and 1 local event is organized by ourselves. We organize sightseeing tours with the bicycles led by the target group for two people per week. As a matter of fact we are not only helping the target group, but their families as well so they can be more independent and healthier as well. By doing this, we contribute to prevent burn out syndrome. We cooperate with the Dombóvár Rehab Center, Vasutas Athletic Association and Active Balaton Tourism Cluster.

Summary of project results

People with disabilities have a limited range to experience the feeling of freedom, although this would significantly improve their physical and mental wellbeing. By expanding their opportunities for activity we have also opened up new ways for them to live a fuller life. Both elderly people and those with disabilities use our bicycles as a new tool to move, get out, and gain new experiences. Besides our bicycle sightseeing and taxi services, we also participate at running and cycling events with our vehicles. Our priority goal was to activise the target group while also strengthening them physically and mentally. Our broader, society-targeted goal, which was to integrate these groups through positive experiences, has been achieved by a more innovative than forced way. The target group’s life experiences have been enriched with new, never before methods of movement that have brought motivation to their own lives just as well as to their family and colleagues. Our tandem bicycles can be used by those who never before were able to independently move around or could not take part in ordinary traffic due to their disabilities. Outputs have been achieved entirely. We have purchased the vehicles and tools, participated at and organised events, and have realised rehabilitation and integration according to our initial plans. The mental and physical condition of our target groups has improved. The project also facilitates integration and relationship building within society by broadening accessibility. The project has opened up new spectrums and provided new perspective and direction to the lives of people who before had a relatively closed range of opportunities. Moreover, it has established services that work also on the long term.
