Description

Dubrovnik is in the public often mistakenly seen as a city of prosperity. Most citizens are not aware of the existence of vulnerable groups, particularly unemployed young people and young people who have left school (NEET). There is an insufficient number of solidarity actions with members of those groups and actions that promote sustainable development. Therefore, Europe House Dubrovnik plans to implement several activities that would be sustainable even after this action ends. The action, aiming at promote solidarity with members of local vulnerable groups would be implemented from 15/5 to 15/8 2015. Its objectives are to raise awareness within the local community of the existence and problems of vulnerable groups, to involve members of these groups in the implementation of activities by which they would acquire new knowledge and skills, and to help them practically by the Gift Fair. In order to achieve this, the association plans to win at least one local media as action's patron.

Summary of project results

Action results: 1. Better awareness of the Dubrovnik public about the problems of socially vulnerable groups; 2. Due to expressed interest of citizens, similar activities will be organized two more times until the end of 2015, the first time in the largest city district of Mokošica (Children’s Gift Fair) and the second time in the city center (Christmas Gift Fair). 3. Some members of socially disadvantaged groups have been directly involved in the implementation of actions, what helped them to acquire new knowledge and skills. Action sustainability: Encouraged by a large number of queries of Gift Fair visitors, we organized a meeting with the Deputy Mayor, to examine the possibility of providing a suitable space in which the first Dubrovnik second-hand shop would be opened. Even the spaces are currently not available, the City authorities support the opening of such shop. The applicant will therefore continue to search for suitable spaces in cooperation with other local stakeholders.
